Why my mother needed a hysterectomy? .. that had breast cancer?
My mother had breast cancer several years ago and had a mastectomy of her left breast. I also had chemotherapy and radiation and are not repeated. The doctor suggested a hysterectomy and oophorectomy oophorectomy (removal of the ovaries). She had cancer of the ovaries or the cervix and her doctor said the surgery prophylactic (preventive). Why? I did not think the first question recently and I did it twice by accident. Feel free to respond anyway .. personal experience, that's great. thanks
Breast cancer is often triggered by high levels of estrogen. Removal of the ovaries would mean less estrogen in the body and the cancer can not return. It's your choice and may or may not help, but doctors have an idea.
